Club AGM 2024

This years Club AGM will take place on Friday 5th April, at the Luxulyan Village Hall, from 7pm. This means there will be no bowls practice that evening, but we hope to see you all at the meeting as it's your chance to find out what has happened over the last year for the club. Also for us to hear your views and comments, and see what our future may bring.

St Austell Food Bank Social Evening

Foodbank 004.jpg

On Friday 22nd March we hosted a social evening with members of the St Austell Food Bank coming up to have a go at Short Mat Bowls. For most it was the first time they had ever experienced it and seemed to very much enjoy it. The night included a small buffet, and a raffle was held to raise further money for the Food Bank. We managed to raise a further £100 to add to the original total of £450 that was raised from the Roy Denslow Charity Shield, two fantastic amounts for a very worthy cause. The Luxulyan SMBC would like to thank everyone that came and we hope to see you again soon.

Club Championship 2023

Our 2023 Club Championship came to a conclusion. The final pair were John Turner and defending champion Steve Williamson. A close game with both players playing very well. Steve managed to take it and now goes on to represent the club at the County Champion Of Champions competition.

Our President Jennifer Richards was on hand to present the trophies. So two times on the trot for him, will he make it three this year? Good luck to Steve.

Sad News

Over the last few months, the club is sad to report of the loss of two of its members. Peter Moyle has been and played for our club for many years, after joining us from Lostwithiel SMBC. He was an avid long mat bowls player and played in many of the week day leagues. We also lost David Lavis unexpectedly. He hadn't been in the club very long, coming from Goonbarrow SMBC. He played in our afternoon sessions with his partner Margaret, and enjoyed outdoor bowling too. The clubs thoughts are with both their families and both Peter and David will be sadly missed by all at Luxulyan SMBC.

Thank You Ian and Mary

Ian (Carnmoggas).jpg

A big thank you to two wonderful people who came to the club's aid for our Roy Denslow Charity Tournament. Firstly Ian (left) we contacted after we found out our village hall had been double booked and we needed to find another venue, quickly and as near as possible for our tournament. Not only did he offer Carnmoggas, but as it was for charity he gave it to us for free! What an absolute gentleman, so we decided to get him something as a thank you.

As most of you will know Ian is a big fan of Marilyn Monroe, so we decided to get him a Monroe clock for his bar which is filled with Monroe memorabilia. To say he was absolutely made up with it was an understatement! We would also like to express a huge thank you to Mary. Without her wonderful help selling raffle tickets and cakes, all day may I add, especially whilst all our club members were having to play at the same time, we would not have raised as much money as we did. Although she loved doing it and didn't want anything for it, we had to get her a beautiful bouquet for all her effort. Once again thank you both so very much from all at Luxulyan SMBC.

New Triples Tournament

After the success of our Roy Denslow Charity Tournament, our club is looking to be able to run a new triples tournament. As we've moved the Roy Denslow event to the end of the winter league season, we are hoping to run the triples event just before the winter league is due to start, to help blow the cobwebs away in time! Look out for more information very soon...

Friendlies

Our club are always interested in a friendly or two. We are able to host or travel away. If your club would like to arrange a friendly against us, please contact Mark Albon on 07779 473544, and we will hopefully be able to sort a date. We can arrange for one or two teams of triples or fours and accommodate the same at our venue, with refreshments.
